The works of consolidation and restoration of the walls of the fortified castle Caravaca have begun thanks to the contribution of 1% Cultural Ministry of Development granted thanks to the efforts made during the last legislature.
Lorquimur company specializing in restoration and conservation of artistic heritage properties, both real and furniture, is responsible for this project.
The Historical Heritage Act establishes the obligation to spend on public works contracts a party of at least 1% to works of conservation and enrichment of Spanish Historical Heritage or promoting artistic creativity, preferably in the work itself or in their immediate environment.
In this program restoration projects, conservation and value are included in structures built for the defense of territory, like castles and different elements of military and defensive architecture.
The project includes work Caravaca Castle archeology, performances on the upper platform of the wall, rainwater drainage and consolidation of the facades and exterior wall cloths, cleaning the masonry and ashlar masonry and placing new or blocks.
All these actions are aimed to correct and prevent damage to the filter rainwater coming causing the structure of the walls.
The Popular Party spokesman in the city of Caravaca explained that this grant from the Ministry of Public Works came almost a year ago and demonstrates the commitment of the governments of Spain and the Region of Murcia to Caravaca, its artistic heritage and its tourism potential.
"This action will value the main monument of Caravaca, its maximum icon and trademark. It is a building that identifies us and we must preserve for the future."
Jose Francisco Garcia recalled that this work is in addition to numerous other initiatives from the government of Pedro Antonio Sánchez being carried out for the Jubilee Year 2017.
