The City of Caravaca de la Cruz, through its Department of Culture and Tourism, marks the International Museum Day with a series of activities aimed at disseminating the rich archaeological museum and heritage of the municipality.
The initiatives planned start this Saturday, May 14, with a tour of the Castle and Cabezuela Archivel Barranda route, which will be led by the municipal archaeologist, Francisco Brotóns Yagüe.
To participate prior registration is not necessary, only in person at 11.00 am at the site of Archivel, which will be the starting point of the visit.
On Wednesday, 18, the same activity will be repeated, but this time aimed at secondary students Oróspeda Institute.
Roman structures caravaqueñas districts of Archivel and Barranda are the most important Iberian sites for the study of the civil war between Julius Caesar and Pompey the Great, between the years 49 and 44 BC, an event that affected very intensely the Iberian Peninsula and that until the discovery of these enclaves, it was only known through written sources.
They are therefore the only Spanish Roman military sites that outside the walls of some cities, have been linked to the civil war between cesarianos and Pompeian.
On Saturday and Sunday, 21 and 22 May, the network of museums in Caravaca de la Cruz held open days.
In addition, he said Saturday at 20.00 hours, will be a concert in the small square of the Archaeological Museum of 'La Soledad', which will be headed by a brass quintet of the musical group Caravaca de la Cruz.
Finally, on Sunday, 21, at 11.00 am a guided tour of the quarries and Roman temples Strait Historic Site will be offered Incarnation.
The sanctuary of The Incarnation is one of the few peninsular pre-Roman shrines that allows a thorough analysis of the transformations of beliefs, rites and images of worship after the arrival of the Romans to the Peninsula in the late third century BC of Christ, and also remains of the temples that the Romans built on the old Iberian shrine, whose stout walls were finally incorporated into the structure of the chapel of the Incarnation.
The International Museum Day is coordinated by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), which takes place every year around the May 18 event.
This year is celebrated under the theme "Museums and cultural landscapes'.
It is an opportunity to educate the general public about the role and challenges of museums in the development of society.
