Sheep Fair Segureño and Ranching of #Caravaca, held from Thursday to Sunday this week, has been presented at the Water Ministry, Agriculture and Environment, with the mayor, Jose Moreno, general director agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Dori Morales, and the Councillor for agriculture in the City of Caravaca de la Cruz, Enrique Fuentes.
The fair will be located in the fairgrounds 'El Salvador' and shall consist of a sample of local produce, gastronomic by bars and restaurants in the town, round tables, tastings segureño lamb and workshops for school days.
At the fair also it will be exposed cattle and sheep breed montesina Celtiberian goat, both endangered and which are herds in the Northwest Region.
The City of Caravaca de la Cruz wants this event to highlight the importance for the town and surrounding areas has ranching and promote the consumption of segureño lamb, awarded Protected Designation of Origin, as well as other gastronomic products Earth.
Murcia has a total of 545,478 head of sheep and 1,465 producers segureño, 3 percent of the national total.
It is the Spanish race that has increased their copies in recent decades, reaching 1.5 million head today, of which 35 percent are in the region.
From the Directorate General of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries they underlined the important economic and social component of livestock, for their contribution to the achievement of rural and fixing the population in these areas.
Program activities from 19 to 22 May
The fair program includes the round table 'Harnessing corpses of small ruminants by carrion birds' (Friday, 20, at 12.00, classroom Cajamurcia), the performance of Animeros of Caravaca (Saturday, 21, at 11.30 fairgrounds), the presentation of awards for rural women and Pastor of the Year (Saturday, 21, at 12.30, fairground), the popular tasting by the PGI Cordero Segureño (Saturday, 21, at 13,30, fairgrounds) and the conference 'Cattle routes' (Saturday, 21, at 20.00 pm in classroom Cajamurcia).
The fair will be closed with the recipe contest by the association of restaurateurs, to be held at 12.30 pm on Sunday, May 22.
