The spread of livestock as a traditional activity in the municipality and the promotion of gastronomic products of the earth have been two of the main objectives of the fair held at the fairgrounds of 'El Salvador', last weekend.
An event sponsored by the Department of Agriculture of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz, with the collaboration of the District Agricultural Office, the National Association of Sheep Breeders Segureño, COAG, the Association 'Water and land' and the Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment, among other groups and institutions.
During the fair included the involvement of the Association of merchants and restaurateurs of Caravaca (ACHC), which was held in twelve restaurants and bars Gastronomic Days Segureño Lamb.
In addition, a total of 7 hoteliers participated in the contest recipes made from sheep segureño, which took place as a closing and in which the winner bar 'Zaian'.
The said competition was a professional jury, composed chef restaurant 'El Olivar' and National Hospitality Award, Firo Vázquez;
Professor of the School of Hospitality of Murcia, Encarna Mª Moupean and Emilio Litrán and Pedro Navarro, members of the Brotherhood of Lamb Segureño.
Among the participants were El Arco, Los Viñales, Zaian, El Horno, Halls Castillo de la Cruz, Bar Sol y Peña Taurine.
Moreover, it has also been highlighted the involvement of the local school community in this first Fair Sheep Ranching Segureño and since visited it to form part of the educational workshops shear and cowbells.
In addition, caravaqueños fifth graders Elementary participated in the contests of drawing and writing, resulting winners Paula Huescar (El Salvador), Jose Juan Navarro (Santa Cruz), Ana Lopez (El Salvador), Mario Aviles (San Francisco) Raul Sanchez (La Santa Cruz) and Francisco Fernandez (La Santa Cruz).
As part of the I Fair Sheep Segureño and Ranching he is presented the awards to the Rural Woman of the Year, which went to Engracia Gil Garcia, livestock Barranda, and Pastor of the Year, which went to Isaac Torres Martinez, Archivel shepherd and livestock.
The organization thus wanted to recognize the work of both for a lifetime dedicated to the rural world, relying on extensive livestock farming as a profession.
The fair, in addition to exposing the Segureña, Montesina and Goat Celtibérica races, has had tastings and stands selling local products of the land, among which those with designation of origin, such as rice Calasparra, wines Murcia Bullas and cheeses.
