Within the III Cycle 'Illustrious Characters of Science in Murcia', Caravaca de la Cruz hosts the conference 'Don Daniel Jimenez de Cisneros and Hervas: Anecdotes and testimonies of an exceptional man', which will be delivered by Academician of the Academy of Farmacia Santa Maria of Spain in the Region of Murcia, Fernando P. Lopez Azorin.
The conference will take place on Tuesday, June 14, at 19.30, in the classroom Cajamurcia Culture, organized by the Academy of Pharmacy of Santa Maria of Spain Murcia, in collaboration with the City of Caravaca.
Daniel caravaqueño Ximenes is considered one of the paleontologists, geologists and most important naturalists of the first third of the twentieth century.
He devoted much of his life to teaching and scientific study, based on direct observation, which earned him great achievements and numerous successes method.
He published about 200 articles, many of them in the Bulletin of the Royal Spanish Society of Natural History, and formed an important collection of fossils and artifacts result of numerous excursions.
"Within academia's contribution Ximenes has been recognized and taken into account throughout the years, but still quite unknown in Murcia society and among his own countrymen, caravaqueños" said the mayor, Jose Moreno, who reported that in addition to this talk, is going to publish a book that approaches the public "the brilliant and prolific career of a person who gave his life to scientific study and educational work".
Daniel Ximenes and Hervas was born in Caravaca on 16 April 1863. A few years and because of her father's work began to reside in various places, but never lost his relationship with his hometown in passing some seasons relative frequency.
In 1884 returns again take up residence in Caravaca to obtain a position as a teacher at Colegio La Santa Cruz.
Here he remained until mid-1886 when he was leaving to continue their education up to doctorate at the Faculty of Science at the University of Madrid.
Later he obtained the Chair of Natural History Jovellanos Institute and in 1903, the Institute of Alicante.
In 1913 he was granted a pension for the study of natural science museums in Switzerland, Italy and France.
Ximenes and Hervas wrote a memoir entitled "By land of Murcia (1872-1892)".
In it devotes several pages to Caravaca, describing her life at school, the personality of the teachers who taught in it and some relevant characters they related.
