Councillor for Agriculture and Environment in the City of Caravaca de la Cruz, Enrique Fuentes, participated, along with farmers and industry professionals in a workshop on the intensive cultivation of apple varieties in the Northwest Region.
The activity took place at the Center for Agricultural Demonstration 'Las Nogueras de Arriba', the experimental farm, located in the hamlet of Los Prados caravaqueña where tests covering various crops develop.
During the day, they were released vegetative and productive eight new varieties of apple, precocious and productive characteristics.
Enrique Fuentes emphasized the importance of an experimental farm in the municipality of Caravaca de la Cruz, since varieties which are conventional in other areas of the region, do not offer the same results in the Northwest Region, mainly due to climatic and altitudinal ".
The Directorate General of Agrifood Innovation in 2014 began a trial with these varieties of apple, coordinated by the Northwest District Agricultural Office, with the collaboration of the cooperative Fruit Caravaca maintenance.
The project is funded by the Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment and the Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment.
