The activity was held to coincide with the 'World Tourism Day', an event which this year is dedicated to the accessibility of the sector
State Representative Platform of People with Disabilities PREDIF Murcia has chosen Caravaca de la Cruz to demand accessible tourism, coinciding with the commemoration of 'World Tourism Day'.
To the municipality they have moved users of the various associations and groups that make up the federation to participate in an urban pilgrimage, which ended at the Royal Basilica de la Vera Cruz.
The event was attended by Acting Minister Employment and Social Security, Fátima Báñez;
President of the Autonomous Community, Pedro Antonio Sanchez;
the mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, Jose Moreno, and counselors of Tourism and Family, Juan Hernandez and Thomas Violante, respectively.
On arrival at the Castle, they have been received by the older sister of the Brotherhood of Vera Cruz, Elisa Giménez-Giron, and its representative board.
This year the 'World Tourism Day' has been dedicated to accessible tourism in order to sensitize the international community of the importance of tourism for all and its social, cultural, political and economic value.
The purpose of the activities held today in different parts of the Spanish geography has been promoting accessibility in the sector and highlight best practices that have been made in different destinations.
In this sense, the mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, Jose Moreno, has shown its strong commitment to Caravaca de la Cruz a destination tailored to the needs of people with mobility problems, working on the progressive removal of architectural barriers, and providing the means to bring information of tourism resources to people with disabilities.
Currently, it is estimated that 15% of the world population lives with a disability, that is, which are about 1,000 million people because, in many cases, the lack of accessible tourist destinations, have the privilege of approach other cultures, natural surroundings or enjoy the experience of a journey to explore new landscapes or places.
