The mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, Jose Moreno, accompanied by the Councillor for Agriculture and Environment, Enrique Fuentes, met with the president of the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura (CHS), Miguel Angel Rodenas, to bring together various projects to improve the supply of drinking water in the municipality and the protection of traditional irrigation systems.
Specifically, the mayor sought support from the president of the CHS for the Commonwealth of Channels Taibilla (MCT) supply water potable industrial estate Cavila and districts, proposal approved in Parliament last July, to through a joint motion.
"In these areas of the municipality endangered the possibility of industrial development and population growth due to supply problems," said Fuentes, who pointed out that the population of the 14 caravaqueñas districts has historically been omitted from the supply schemes TCM, which has forced to use resources well.
"Something that does not happen with most of the municipalities of Murcia and 32 municipalities of Alicante and Albacete, who do benefit from the infrastructure of the Commonwealth of Channels Taibilla" he pointed.
In recent decades it has increased considerably water consumption in the districts, in part by increasing the number of homes, but also due to industrial development, which is causing the extraction wells exceeded in some cases the maximum amount authorized by the CHS.
Another aspect that motivated this meeting was to convey the concerns of irrigators and the Consistory itself in relation to overexploitation of aquifers and the condition are having withdrawals of groundwater for new irrigation systems, impacting negatively on the springs traditional irrigation supply.
"With regard to the condition of the springs as a result of changes rainfed to irrigated land, the Municipal Socialist Group will raise the next Parliament a motion in which we propose to intervene to correct this serious problem affecting traditional irrigation" , as announced by Enrique Fuentes.
Moreover, since the supply of districts and the polygon Cavila is done with groundwater, representatives of caravaqueño Consistory requested that the uses be regularized based on current needs, as some concessions, such as the Archivel or Caneja, are dimensioned for a lower supply which has been recorded.
Finally, José Moreno and Enrique Fuentes moved to the CHS that, to the extent of its powers, help to reduce nitrate levels in aquifers.
