The talk 'Toxic in the home' informs of substances harmful to health and the environment (13/12/2016)

'Toxic in the home' is the title of the talk that will inform this Friday, December 16, of substances harmful to health and the environment.

The activity, organized by the Association 'Caralluma' and 'Ecologists in Action', with the collaboration of the Department of Environment of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz, will start at 19.00 hours in the House of Culture 'Emilio Sáez '.

The speaker Cari Navarro will speak about substances that are recognized as harmful to health, endocrine disruptors, some disorders or pathologies that can develop and most importantly, where they are present.

"Every day more people are beginning to show interest in this public health issue, but it is not always easy to get accurate and reliable information about the substances that are not healthy for our organism or the environment that sustains us, Nor for many other living beings who also cohabit in it, "said the speaker.

The hormonal system is connected to the nervous system and the immune system.

Tiny levels of hormones can have a great effect so exposure to very low levels of hormone contaminants (EDCs) can wreak havoc, especially at crucial stages of development, including prenatal development.

Since 'Ecologists in Action' warn that in humans, hormonal contaminants are related to problems of infertility, reproductive, obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancers related to the hormonal system, such as breast, prostate and testicular.

It is also worrying that they may have effects on brain development and cognitive development since thyroid hormones play a crucial role in this.

There are hormone contaminants (EDCs) in certain pesticides, as well as some industrial chemicals used in consumer products.

Humans are exposed to these contaminants through products such as flame retardants in furniture and electrical products, plastics in the coating of food cans and through many cosmetics.

"Scientists from all over Europe are calling on the international community to act against endocrine disrupters despite the interests of the industry, hence the importance of being informed as responsible consumers and inhabitants of our planet," from Ecologistas en Acción.
