The Director General of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Carmen Teodora Morales, and the Councilor for Agriculture and the Environment in the City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz, Enrique Fuentes, visited the sheep farm of the caravaqueña Engracia Gil, named 'Cattle of the year' at the last Cattle Fair Segureño Caravaca de la Cruz.
The farm, located in the area of ​​the Retamalejo, in the hamlet of Los Royos, maintains a herd of approximately 600 reproducers of sheep Segureño of the variety Rubisca.
During the visit, the mayor Enrique Fuentes stressed the importance of the incorporation of women into the livestock sector and agriculture, a fact that contributes to fix and consolidate the population of rural areas.
For its part, Carmen Teodora Morales has referred to the good adaptation to this area of ​​the Segureña race, which is also an incentive for the maintenance of the population in the rural environment.
The Region of the Northwest is the largest census of sheep in the Region, with more than 200 farms, although it is necessary the support of the administrations, due to the decline of farms in the last years, motivated mainly by the aging of the people That are dedicated to the breeding of cattle and the lack of generational relief.
