Fruit trees, almonds, cereals, broccoli, lettuce and nurseries are the most affected, with crop losses year-round, according to Agriculture Councilor Enrique Fuentes.

The motion was presented by the socialist parliamentary group in the Regional Assembly, with the collaboration of the socialist municipal groups of Caravaca and Lorca, after knowing more accurately the data of the valuations of the damages provided by the Offices of the Agrarian Offices of Caravaca And Lorca, facilitated by the Ministry of Water, Agriculture Livestock and Fisheries.

The hail has affected 4,684 hectares of crops in the municipalities of Caravaca de la Cruz, Lorca and Cehegín, with a loss of production valued around 4 million euros, with the municipality of Caravaca de la Cruz the most damaged with about 3,000 Ha (about 64%) and an economic loss of about € 3,650,000, which is about 92.5% of the total affected.

To this must be added the foreseeable crop loss of next year in crops of fruit trees and almond trees since hail has also damaged the trunk of trees in many cases.

The motion, presented by Socialist regional deputy Jesús Navarro, proposes the approval of a decree of extraordinary measures to compensate for the million dollar losses in the crops, the bonus in the contracting of insurance policies, to negotiate with the insurers so that the Insurance cover 100% of the damages;

Also calls for the creation of an extraordinary aid fund for those affected who do not have their crops insured due to the poor conditions of the insurance system and for the negotiation of measures to ensure that agricultural insurance guarantees accessibility to small and medium-sized farmers through affordable quotas .

For all this, it is also proposed in the motion that the 2018 budget is increased by 6 million euros the item for aid for the procurement of agricultural insurance.
