The Councilor for Sports in the City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz, Antonio Donate, and the eldest sister of the Colegio de la Vera Cruz, Elisa Giménez-Girón, welcomed the participants in the 'Non-stop Lorca-Santiago de Compostela' With which it is promoted the Jubilee Year 2017 of Caravaca in 77 Spanish localities.
Participants in this relay test made a halt on the way during the first stage to receive a miniature replica of the Cross of Caravaca, carrying with the witness, a piece of the canvas recovered from the debris of the devastated church of Santiago de Lorca in the earthquakes of May 11, 2011 in Lorca.
Both elements will be offered to the Apostle Santiago in the Cathedral of Compostela upon arrival.
The race involves 21 runners on foot and 5 cyclists who take turns uninterrupted to complete a total of 1,143 kilometers during the five days of pilgrimage.
The race, which is scheduled to conclude tomorrow, Tuesday 13 June, at 10.00 hours in the Cathedral of Santiago, is organized by the Lorca-Santiago Association and the City of Lorca, with the collaboration of the Tourism Institute of the Region of Murcia.
