The City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz will attend the third call for the European funds of the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI).

The mayor, José Moreno, together with the person responsible for the development of the project 'Caravaca 2024, heritage of the future', Nuria Prior, held a meeting in the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration with officials of the General Directorate of Community Funds and The General Subdirectorate of European Territorial Cooperation and Urban Development, with the aim of knowing firsthand the requirements of the third call for these grants.

The project presented to the last call by the Consistory caravaqueño obtained the third best score in the Region of Murcia, of the thirteen municipalities that attended the call, although finally was selected only the one presented by the City of Murcia.

The European Union requires that projects which opt for ERDF funding should form part of a common development strategy, covering all important aspects of the municipality.

The development of the DUSI strategy will allow carrying out actions focused on improving the municipality and with it the quality of life of its neighbors.

It was a measure approved by the Plenary and the purpose of it is to work in four main lines of action: electronic administration and 'smart cities';

Energy promotion and sustainable transport;

Efficient use of heritage resources and, finally, regeneration of disadvantaged urban areas.

The ERDF regulation states that, during the period 2014-2020, at least 5% of the resources of this fund should be used to finance sustainable development measures, integrated into strategies developed by cities or other bodies.

The objective of this call for proposals is the achievement of economic funds destined to environmentally sustainable urban development, promoting projects of social dynamization that contribute to urban and socio-economic cohesion and that conserve the existing cultural and natural heritage.
