The Japanese drama Cio-Cio San (or Madama Butterfly) returns, 110 years after its premiere, to the Real Theater of Madrid.
An event that can also be followed in real time in 250 Spanish municipalities.
'Madama Butterfly' is the tragedy par excellence in the world of opera.
Composed by Giacomo Puccini at the beginning of the 20th century, it contains the most propitious ingredients for the drama: love, deception, betrayal and death.
All this, furthermore, adorned by the exoticism of the empire of the rising sun, its people, its tradition and its culture, which contrasts with the power of the western invader.
It is a tragedy in three acts, set in the Japan of the early twentieth century.
The work tackles a dramatic story full of love and heartbreak around the union of a geisha with an officer of the United States Navy, developing through scenes in which passion and feelings are protagonists.
ARGUMENT:
Cio-Cio-San, better known as Butterfly, is a young geisha who confronts her family for her love for the official appeal of the US Navy BF Pinkerton, for whom she renounces her own beliefs, changing her religion and becoming a Christian .
Pinkerton, however, sees in this relationship nothing more than a mere entertainment with which to make her stay far from her home more enjoyable.
Unscrupulous, he goes so far as to marry Butterfly, despite knowing that this union will be short-lived and will soon abandon it.
She, blinded by a love that she believes sincere and corresponded, waits patiently for three years, convinced that her husband will return.
Her expectation is finally rewarded, though not in the way she desires.
Both have hidden during this time a secret that they must confess: Butterfly has been mother of a son conceived in the wedding night, but Pinkerton not only has not been faithful to him, but has contracted marriage with an American woman, whom considers his Legitimate wife.
Due to the deep misery that invades the Japanese girl, who has seen her feelings betrayed, she makes a terrible decision, which has no turning back.
Without giving place to a reunion with the officer, he says goodbye to his little one and puts a knife in his heart.
