The City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz, through its Department of Transparency and Citizen Participation, celebrates this Thursday, September 28, the 'International Day of Transparency and the Right to Know'.
The public event will take place at 8.30 pm on the Paseo de la Corredera, with the participation of the mayor, José Moreno, and the president of the Transparency Council of the Region of Murcia, José Molina, and will be enlivened by 'Murcia Swing '.
The International Day of Transparency is celebrated to promote the collective commitment to conquer the right to know, a constitutional aspiration that in practice usually finds difficulties to become reality.
Both the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights have enshrined the right of everyone to receive information.
Access to information is the possibility for citizens to become aware of the acts of government and the documentation that supports those acts.
This conception is related to a participatory notion of democracy and to respect for fundamental rights as a source of legitimation for the exercise of power.
In this sense, access to public information is a right based on one of the main characteristics of our constitutional system: the publicity of government acts and the transparency of the administration.
