In order to support the training and promotion of local athletes, the Department of Sports of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz has granted a total of six scholarships, as established in the first call for grants to individual athletes in the municipality.
After reviewing the applications presented and verifying that they meet the requirements reflected in the regulatory bases, the beneficiaries of these municipal aids, based on the merits achieved during the 2015/2016 and 2016/17 seasons, are Marina Martínez López (runner-up in the Championship of Spain of Duathlon Team Time Trial, third in Spanish Duathlon Championship by relays and runners-up in the Queen Cup of Triathlon);
Andrés Torres Llamas (Bronze in Spanish Championship of 60 meters hurdles);
Paloma Sánchez Sala (champion of the Autonomous Field Circuit through the Valencian Community and champion of Spain of 1st Division Clubs) and Francisco García Rus (regional champion of Individual Time Trial, regional champion of Road Cycling, 5th place in the Championship of Spain , runner Vuelta a Lérida and runner Vuelta a Galicia).
Among the beneficiaries are Alberto Sánchez Romero (Regional Final Champion of School Triathlon), and Pedro Vilches Bravo (champion of Karting of the cadet category of the Valencian Community).
The Department of Sports has allocated this season 8,000 euros to scholarships for sports activities, in order to support young people representing Caravaca de la Cruz in tests of regional, national and international.
The grants, aimed at athletes resident in the municipality of Caravaca, aged between 10 and 35 years, have been granted in competitive competition, without any beneficiary exceeding the maximum amount of 1,500 euros.
To do this, they have valued the sporting merits, such as having participated in championships in Spain, Europe or the World or having podiums in national or international events or in competitions organized by the City of Caravaca de la Cruz.
