The City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz will name Antonio García Martínez-Reina 'Favorite Son' of the city this Saturday, January 27.
The former mayor of the municipality between 1987 and 1999 will be distinguished, posthumously, with this recognition included in the Municipal Regulation of Honors and Distinctions, at a public ceremony that will take place in the Plenary Hall of the Consistory, at 12.30.
The act will begin with the reading by the mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, José Moreno Medina, of the minutes of the plenary session on November 27, which was approved unanimously by the appointment of Antonio García Martínez-Reina as' Favorite Son 'of the city.
Then, on behalf of his friends and colleagues both in his teaching and political career, Germán Sánchez Campos, Luis Gabriel Martínez Elbal and Juan Calos Gómez Triguero will take the floor.
Finally, the two daughters of the distinguished, Cristina García Carrascal and Patricia García Caro will intervene, who will receive from the mayor's hands the diploma accrediting this recognition that the town of Caravaca de la Cruz offers.
The musical note will be the guitarist Antonio Molina García.
At the end of the event, a meal will be held at Salones Pedro Marín, for which tickets can be purchased at Nueva Joyería, on Calle Mayor, at the price of 20 euros.
Numerous estates and social, festive and cultural groups adhered to the file for the appointment Antonio García Martínez-Reina as 'Favorite Son' of the city, file whose processing ended last November with the proposal raised to Plenary by the Government team , approved with the favorable vote of the different municipal political groups.
Antonio García Martínez-Reina was born in 1954 in the caravaqueña cuesta of Don Álvaro.
He attended his first studies in the school of 'La Consolación' and studied Baccalaureate at the 'Cervantes' institute.
He completed the Master's degree in the Normal School of Murcia and, later, he studied Therapeutic Pedagogy.
His career as a teacher was developed in San Francisco public school, in the special education school 'Ascruz' and in Cervantes.
In 1987 he was elected mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, a position he held for three terms, promoting numerous initiatives for the development and modernization of the municipality, through the creation of new municipal public infrastructures, the construction of social housing, measures of revitalization of the historic center and the acquisition of the natural site of the Fuentes del Marqués, among other projects.
His vocation of public service and interest in politics was awakened at a very early age by his father, Ginés García Andreu, who was the first mayoral candidate for the Socialist Party.
Antonio also participated actively in the political life from the ranks of the PSP and occupying different positions of responsibility at local and regional level in the PSOE.
Antonio García Martínez-Reina, after passing through municipal politics, returned to his work as a teacher and returned to teaching in the District Center for Adult Education of the Northwest, developing an intense educational work for the past 12 years.
