The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has developed the operation 'AUFZUG', an investigation aimed at clarifying the theft of large amounts of counterweights of elevators of buildings in Caravaca de la Cruz, which has culminated with the identification, location, detention and subsequent legal action against the alleged perpetrator of the robberies.
So far researchers have clarified four criminal facts.
The Benemérita began the investigation at the beginning of the year as a result of several complaints filed for the removal of metallic elements from the installation of the building elevators.
Specifically, the metal plates, 25 Kilograms of weight, used as counterweights, had been stolen, facts that had generated a sense of certain insecurity among those affected.
As the investigation was conducted, aimed at identifying the author of the robberies, the Civil Guard continued to receive complaints, accounting for a total of five communities of affected owners so far.
The investigations carried out oriented the agents to a neighbor of the locality, with experience in the sector, who presumably was posing as an employee of an elevator company to carry out obligatory routine inspections.
According to the investigation, the suspect simulated carrying out the review and, when no one was watching him, seized the metal plates, which he subsequently sold in a waste management company.
In total, five affected buildings have been registered, in which supposedly 58 counterweights and copper wiring have been stolen, with an approximate value of 2,000 euros.
The operation continues open in order to detect more buildings affected by the illicit activity developed by the now arrested.
The Spanish detainee, 37 years old and neighbor of Caravaca de la Cruz, along with the proceedings, has been placed at the disposal of the Court of Instruction of Caravaca de la Cruz (Murcia).
