Cities from all over the world join the commemoration of the'Day of the book 'to promote reading, the publishing industry and intellectual property
The City of Caravaca de la Cruz, through the Municipal Public Library, commemorates today, Monday April 23, the 'Day of the Book and Copyright'.
The central act is scheduled at 7:00 pm, in the auditorium of the House of Culture 'Emilio Sáez, where a public reading of texts by women writers and poets of the generation of 27 will take place, a collective known in the literary world as 'Las Sinsombrero'.
All those who wish may participate in the reading, accompanying the members of the Reading Club 'La Candela', the students of the creative reading workshop, students of the Cervantes public school, the municipal librarian, Juan Antonio Martínez Piqueras, and the councilman of Culture, Óscar Martínez, among others.
In addition, users who visit the Library during the day will receive a bookmark as a gift and may participate in the release of books.
With the term Generation of 27 is known that surely is the most influential and well-known group of literary and artists of the Spanish culture. His legacy is widely known as long as we talk about them. But what about them?
Could it be that there were no women?
Nothing is further from reality.
Within the Group of 27 there existed, created and triumphed a generation of womenpintoras, poets, novelists, illustrators, sculptors and thinkers, of immense talent who not only enjoyed in their time of national and international success, but through their art and activism They challenged and changed the social and cultural norms of Spain in the 20s and 30s.
"The sinsombrero" is a crossmedia project, which uses different formats and platforms (television, internet and publication), with the aim of recovering, disseminating and perpetuating the legacy of the forgotten women of the first half of the 20th century in Spain.
From the female figures of the Generation of 27 to all those women who with their work, their actions and their courage were and are fundamental to understand the culture and history of a country that never claimed them.
María Zambrano, María Teresa León, Rosa Chacel, Josefina de la Torre, Ernestina de Champourcín, Carmen Conde, Concha Méndez, Ángela Figuera and Maruja Mallo are part of 'Las Sinsombrero', the silenced women of the Generation of '27.
April 23 is a symbolic day for world literature since that day in 1616 died Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega.
The date also coincides with the birth or death of other prominent authors such as Maurice Druon, Haldor K. Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo.
The General Conference of UNESCO, held in Paris in 1995, decided to pay a universal tribute to the books and authors on this date, encouraging everyone, and in particular young people, to discover the pleasure of reading and to value the irreplaceable contributions of those who have promoted the social and cultural progress of humanity.
The International Book Day is a commemoration celebrated worldwide with the aim of promoting reading, the publishing industry and the protection of intellectual property through copyright.
Since 1995 it is an international celebration promoted by UNESCO.
