From the esplanade of the Royal Basilica of the True Cross, the caravaqueño ophthalmologist Juan Manuel Laborda Oñate pronounces this Sunday, April 29, at 9:00 pm, the proclamation that will mark the beginning of the festivities of Moors, Christians and Horses of Wine in honor to the Santísima and Vera Cruz de Caravaca.
In order to facilitate the movement of residents and visitors, the tourist train will travel upwards from 19.30, having as its starting point the Plaza del Arco.
Rolled traffic will be allowed until 20.30, only to make a stop, while people get out of the vehicle, without parking.
In addition, Civil Protection volunteers will assist those with reduced mobility problems who want to witness the proclamation, with travel with the adapted vehicle.
Accompanied by the delegation, Juan Manuel Laborda will make a stop at the City of Caravaca de la Cruz to leave his signature in the honor book and then the parade will continue to the esplanade of the Castle.
The town crier will be presented by Antonio Romera, with whom he has a strong bond of friendship since in 1976 they were two of the founders of the group of the Christian band 'Caballeros de San Jorge de Alfama'.
"I hope to summarize his enormous professional prestige and his great human category, of all his qualities, one stands out, and very important, his vocation of service to others, especially to the most disadvantaged," says Antonio Romera.
The proclamation of parties has changed this year of location, moving to the esplanade of the Castle, because during it will develop an unprecedented and exclusive show for this act, gift that the town crier wants to offer.
From the City Hall of Caravaca de la Cruz and the Commission of Celebrations of the Royal and Illustrious Brotherhood of the Vera Cruz invite all the people, as well as visitors who come to Caravaca during these festive dates, to enjoy an extraordinary and exclusive Proclamation of Fiestas, in a unique and incomparable setting.
The preacher of 2018 is one of the most recognized ophthalmologists in Spain and Europe.
He is currently medical director of the Hospital 'La Arruzafa', of Córdoba, and president of the 'La Arruzafa' Foundation, a non-profit organization that works for the promotion and research of ophthalmological health, regardless of economic, geographical and social.
Among the most outstanding projects of this foundation is the assistance and surgery to patients in more than 20 expeditions to disadvantaged countries of the African continent, such as Tanzania or Equatorial Guinea.
Juan Manuel Alejandro de la Santísima Cruz Laborda Oñate was born on May 20, 1957 at the Caravaqueña clinic of Don Miguel Robles.
His childhood and youth were marked by a constant comings and goings from Madrid, a family residence, to Caravaca de la Cruz, his hometown.
Of the Knights of St. George he was president for 5 years and in 2015 he was distinguished with the award of the Cristian Bando of the Year.
At the academic and professional level, he has received numerous awards, such as the 2012 National Award of the Collegial Medical Organization in recognition of his professional career in the "Humanities and Cooperation" category or the "Cordobes of the Year 2015" Award.
