The general of the Order of the Discalced Carmel, Saverio Cannistrà , visits Caravaca de la Cruz this week to meet with the convent community of Nuestra Señora del Carmen.
Cannistrà is making a pastoral visit these days to the communities of Discalced Carmelites of Catalonia, Aragon, Valencia, Murcia and Andalusia.
The Prior of Caravaca de la Cruz, Pascual Gil Almela, explains that, with this visit, the Father General knows first hand how life develops in each of the communities, as well as the concerns and desires of each of the friars .
"Our life is valued, the sense of the presence of the communities in which we are, as well as the whole of the Order throughout the world.
The general father meets with us to talk with each one and then leaves some conclusions for our life in community ", emphasizes the prior of Caravaca.
Taking advantage of his stay, this afternoon, at 6:00 p.m., Saverio Cannistrà will bless with the Vera Cruz the new reliquary that has been made to guard a relic of San Juan de la Cruz, a piece of cloth part of a taffeta with which They healed the wounds of the mystic in Úbeda.
On seven occasions San Juan de la Cruz visited the city of Caravaca.
One of them to found the convent of Carmelite Fathers, on March 1, 1587. The saint would be present at the time of the reservation of the Blessed Sacrament in the provisional chapel, as narrated by Father José León in the book on the history of this convent .
For this reason, the prior affirms, it is so important for the Carmelites that the new reliquary be blessed by the Vera Cruz, "so that it may have that relationship of San Juan with the Cruz de Caravaca."
The new reliquary was made by Martín López Molero, a caravaqueño jeweler linked to the Carmelite fathers, from some silver coins donated to the community.
