The City of Caravaca de la Cruz has made public the statistics compiled by the Tourist Office in relation to the number of visitors that the city received in 2010.
According to information provided this morning, there has been an increase of 35% over the Holy Year of 2003 on what amounts to nearly 1,500,000 the number of tourists and pilgrims who passed through the city of Cross over the past twelve months.
From City of Caravaca has made a positive assessment of results obtained in terms of visitors during 2010.
Results, which the mayor Sunday Aranda, "have allowed hoteliers and local traders to better cope with these tough and difficult times of economic crisis."
The Councillor for Tourism, Gonzalo López-Auguy, has emerged as the busiest time for tourists to the festivities (250,000 visitors), the Medieval Market of the Bridge of the Constitution (200,000 visitors), the Fair Youth Zone (25,000 people) MTV Murcia Night festival (15,000 visitors), the Day of the Greenways (1,500 people) and the pilgrimages of the Brotherhoods of Semana Santa (4,000 people), the Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives in the Region of Murcia (2,000 people), associations of widows in the region (1,000 people) or the festivities of Yecla (1,000 people).
During 2010, the municipal Tourism Service have attended a total of 133,246 people, of which 30% came from the Region of Murcia, 65% of other Spanish and 5% from foreign countries.
Among the places of origin of domestic tourists dominates Valencia, followed by Andalusia and Madrid.
United Kingdom, France and Germany are the main places of origin of foreign tourist profile.
In addition, Tourism has coordinated the visit of 1,625 groups, consisting of a total of 139,703 people, providing information on tourism and accommodation and sightseeing tours, managing the network of museums.
To meet the demand for tourist information, the City of Caravaca strengthened in 2010, the Municipal Tourism Office with five points of attention to the pilgrim located in the Plaza del Arco, at the Castle and entrances to the city.
Moreover, the museums managed by the Jubilee Caravaca input recorded 184,721 people, representing an increase of 10.3% over 2003.
This year the museum offers has increased with the space that contains the work of sculptor Joseph caravaqueño Carrilero, adding to the network of museums in the Fiesta, Archaeological, de la Vera Cruz, Ethnic Music Barranda , Angel Miniatures Reinón and Interpretation Centre of the nature of the sources of the marquis.
It should also be noted that the City of Caravaca, through its Department of Culture and with the collaboration of different institutions, has organized over 30 concerts, 23 exhibitions, 35 plays and 20 talks and lectures on various subjects.
