Valcárcel extols the old Way of the Cross as "the way to a destination Caravaca made universal throughout Christendom" (18/05/2011)

El Camino de la Vera Cruz has 29 stages and runs through the communities of Navarra, Aragon, Castilla La Mancha and Valencia to get into the Region of Murcia Jumilla

The president of the Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, today praised the Camino de la Vera Cruz as "the land of communication and pilgrimage destination Caravaca made universal for all Christendom."

Valcárcel was speaking after the discovery of the poster of the zero mile Camino de la Vera Cruz, an act which was also attended by the Mayor of Caravaca, Domingo Aranda, and the secretary general of the Association of European roads, Giovanni Pattoneri.

The Autonomous Community, the Diocese of Cartagena, the city of Caravaca de la Cruz, the Confraternity of the Blessed and Vera Cruz and Caja Mediterráneo work together on recovery and enhancement of the Way of the Cross, and have set a big goal make this pilgrimage route, which in the thirteenth century France Caravaca joined by a path that starts in the Pyrenees, is included within the European Road Network.

El Camino de la Vera Cruz, passing through major Templar enclaves spanning areas, has its starting point in St. Jean Pied de Port, Navarre sharing to the town of Puente La Reina the same stretch of the Camino de Santiago from France.

It is from Puente La Reina to the road splits into two: the Camino de Santiago, on the one hand, and, secondly, the highway leads to land Murcia as Camino de la Vera Cruz.

Its layout recalled for the same path that pilgrims have followed the splinter of the True Cross on his arrival in Caravaca de la Cruz for eight centuries, going to do about 800 kilometers from Puente la Reina in the holy city of Murcia.

Five autonomous regions for 29 stages

El Camino de la Vera Cruz has 29 stages and runs through the communities of Navarra, Aragon, Castilla La Mancha and Valencia to get into the Region of Murcia Jumilla

Specifically, the route crosses 67 municipalities in seven different provinces, including the historic town of Puente la Reina, Artajona, Castejon, Tudela, Tarazona, Calatayud, Daroca, Calamocha, Alfambra, Teruel, Books, Ademuz, Mira, Venta del Moro Houses, Time, Alcalá de Júcar, Montealegre del Castillo, Ontur, Jumilla, Calasparra, Moratalla, Caravaca de la Cruz.

The different stages of the same shall be marked with stones at the entrance and exit of each locality, poles at intersections and posters on the distance traveled and monumental landmarks or heritage of the different sites by running the route.
