The Governing Council has approved the declaration of the party of 'The Wine Horses' in Caravaca de la Cruz as an Asset of Cultural Interest ethnographic.
The race is the core of this festival in which, during the morning of May 2, dozens of horses gallop wearing mantles against the clock and try to be the fastest to reach the castle esplanade of the city.
After the start, established by lot before the horses are led by the four horsemen and are pushing through the crowd that fills up the hill to the castle.
This is the most intense, which highlights the connection between horses and their riders.
When the race ends, horses boast the jury for consideration of the quality of each of the embroidery, set out above.
Next Contest is held to harness, an act that is the culmination of the party and that are valued in different handmade garments.
The party of "Wine Horses" is currently among the candidates for inscription on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Unesco, as agreed at the meeting of the Heritage Council held on 25 October in Madrid.
