The City Council and the Brotherhood of Souls of Caravaca de la Cruz have signed a cooperation agreement to promote conservation initiatives and promotion of music and dance of traditional character.
The agreement was signed by the mayor, Domingo Aranda, Juan Miguel Burruezo and on behalf of the Brotherhood.
The agreement reflects the assignment of a space in the old Society of Jesus as the venue for rehearsals and other activities related to the association.
Meanwhile, the Brotherhood of Souls commits to continue the conservation work of historical and artistic heritage, as well as holding three annual performances in the town by his gang of musicians.
The councilman of Culture, Maria Cruz Perez stressed that this agreement is the result of "the good work being done by members of the Brotherhood of Souls of Caravaca de la Cruz to preserve in time ancestral rites and liturgical music and popular utmost fidelity to tradition. "
The origin of the Brotherhood of Souls of Caravaca de la Cruz goes back to the sixteenth century.
The first document linked to the Brotherhood which is found in Caravaca Council agreement of 1553, by authorizing a warrant to cover the costs of Souls.
The Brotherhood emerged as pious fraternity to attend the funerals of the disinherited and liturgies and Masses for the repose of their souls, under the patronage of the City of Caravaca and the auspices of the Order of Santiago.
Currently, the gang is involved in various celebrations animero of playfulness and promotes liturgical and the name of Caravaca de la Cruz for traditional music events from across the Spanish geography.
