The Director General of Cultural Assets, Francisco Giménez, today introduced the XXXIV edition of the Festival of Barranda crews, held in this village of Caravaca de la Cruz on Sunday January 29 and 12 crews gather from Murcia , Castellón, Albacete and Málaga.
This event is a "pioneer party considered an indisputable leader in the field of music of oral tradition in our country," said Gimenez, who also highlighted the efforts made by the Regional Ministry for the maintenance and enhancement of these meetings.
A presentation of the party also attended by the mayor of Caravaca, Domingo Aranda and the president and representative of the Aguilanderos Barranda, Carlos Manuel Salcedo.
Since 1979, coinciding with the feast of the Candelaria, the patroness of Barranda, the last Sunday of January occurs the Feast of the crews, the day that brings together pandas, music rounds and crews of Spanish oral tradition of the southeast.
The party was declared of National Tourist Interest in 2011 and "has become one of the oldest cultural events of its kind and most important of all those made in Spain", as noted Giménez.
This event is complemented by other activities such as the Days of Culture Study on Oral Tradition, which aims to provide theoretical support to the parties through lectures, educational workshops in schools and lectures.
It also holds the 'Barranda Folk', which will take place on Friday 27 and Saturday January 28th from 22:45 pm in the Social Hall Barranda, with performances of 'Malvariche' and group 'Manuel Moon and the Gang maquila '.
Furthermore, on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 is held the second edition of the Market peasant traditions, which will be attended by representatives of the artisans of Murcia and part of Spain.
The market includes falconry, bakery shops, esparto and creation of jewelry, among others.
