The Plenum of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz discussed at the regular meeting next Thursday a motion in defense of maintaining the courts of First Instance and Instruction based in the town.
Thus, the Consistory expressed their dissatisfaction with the reform project which aims to reduce the number of judicial districts in the Region of Murcia.
The proposal to request the Ministry of Justice to maintain legal jurisdiction of Caravaca has the backing of the three opposition groups, so it will rise to plenary in the form of joint motion.
Was recently made public a draft basis of the High Court of Justice to reduce from eleven to five the existing judicial districts in the region, keeping those located in Murcia, Cartagena, San Javier, Lorca and consists of Cieza, Jumilla and Yecla.
With this reform, the parties of Caravaca, Mula and Molina de Segura would be integrated in Murcia.
In the words of the mayor, Domingo Aranda, "With this motion we want to defend the permanence of the Judicial District of Caravaca de la Cruz, as it is the largest in the region, with over 2,000 square kilometers, far greater than the general model of party court handled so far, with an average area of ​​700 to 1,000 kilometers. "
Furthermore, she added the mayor, "the abolition of the courts will harm for citizens and governments themselves, they will be forced to move, in some cases more than 100 kilometers, to solve many cases as those related to violence gender, civil status, speedy trial or remand in custody of detainees. "
The legal jurisdiction of Caravaca, composed of three courts, is the largest in the region and encompasses the towns of Cehegin, Moratalla, Calasparra and Caravaca de la Cruz, with a population around 63,000 inhabitants.
