The network of hostels in the Greenway in the Region of Murcia, composed of seven establishments located in Caravaca, Cehegin, Mula, Campos del Rio, Albudeite, Alguazas and Bullas, is already running.
The opening of the network took place this morning at old railway station of Cehegin, the presence of Minister of Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, the director general of Tourism, Enrique Ujaldón, mayors of municipalities that make up the Consortium Greenways in the Region of Murcia and the manager of the Consortium, Juan Soria.
Five of these hostels (Campos del Rio, Albudeite, Mula, Cehegin and Caravaca) take advantage of the old railway stations Murcia-Caravaca, and have recently been rehabilitated.
The other two buildings are functional examples of contemporary architecture and integrated into the urban landscape (Alguazas) and natural (Bullas).
The launch of the network of shelters is another step in its commitment to sustainable tourism, recovering old disused buildings and provides for more facilities to the Greenway as a revitalization of tourism of pilgrimage.
The head of Tourism, Government of Murcia highlighted the tourism potential of the green lanes "will continue to operate" by Jumilla next connection "to connect all the way to Vera Cruz" and "an entry will of those domestic tourists who want to cross the peninsula from north to south. "

The seven hostels have a total of 230 seats and the old station has 24 seats Caravaca, Cehegin, 48 seats, Bullas, 44 seats, Mula, 28 seats; Albudeite, 10 seats, Campos del Rio, 16 people and Alguazas, 60 squares.
The old hostel Caravaca station is located at the end of the Greenway and has, on the ground floor, with a common space, for room placement or public use.
On the first floor are three rooms to dormitories with capacity for 30 people with bunk beds and lockers, toilets and two showers.
Likewise, it has restored the old building of toilets, which is incorporated a kiosk-bar, toilets and playground.
Investments in the Greenway
Since 2008 the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, through the Greenway Consortium of Murcia, has spent spent more than four million euros for development of a network of lodges along the Greenway to promote it as a Way of Pilgrimage to Caravaca de la Cruz and increase the supply of tourist accommodation in the area.
Seven shelters must be added the investment in the construction of Hostel Llano de Caravaca de la Cruz.
The Northwest Greenway, part of an old railway line between Murcia and Caravaca de la Cruz in disuse since 1971, a member since 1999 of one of the principal axes of the western Mediterranean Green Network in the Region of Murcia.
The Northwest Greenway has a mixed type of firm along its 78 miles, with stretches of asphalt and compacted gravel, is usable by pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and disabled, and has 13 rest areas, 10 viaducts and 6 tunnels.
This route, which runs through nine municipalities, also offers the variety of its landscapes, an important part of natural and cultural heritage of the Region of Murcia with three natural sites included in Natura 2000, a large number of places in the vicinity or in the path itself, with the cataloging of Cultural Interest (BIC) and the distinction as historic areas of high cultural value of the historic centers of Caravaca de la Cruz, Cehegin and Mula.
Besides the city of Caravaca de la Cruz is a focus of Christian religious tourism, which has been greatly strengthened after the Jubilee Year award in perpetuity in seven years.
