Traditional trade in Caravaca drag a critical situation.
Especially having their livelihoods threatened on all trade that is located within the main streets of the Old Town, as in Calle Mayor, Rafael Tejeo and near the Plaza del Arco.
Furthermore, in Caravaca, not consolidated, with a true identity, the Pilgrim's craft market, held every Sunday, and once a month, as opposed to what happens in the nearby municipalities of Cehegin, with Mesoncito and Bullas, with Zacatín.
Also, unlike with those localities, we regret that gastronomic initiatives as editions of "Top Road" were a failure in Caravaca.
In fact, the Councils of Tourism and Trade of the City of Caravaca have been taking both low and erratic decisions in regards to the craft market, as traditional trade and hospitality in general, to the chagrin of the sectors concerned.
It is regretted the lack of a comprehensive tourism plan, so even in the great events of great affluence as in the past Jubilee Years, as denounced at the time, the traditional trade has hardly benefited, especially in the absence an organization of major routes through the main avenues of the city, such as Main Street.
Specifically, despite everything, the government team still does not take into account the eight points of the joint motion passed just a year ago, for all groups, to develop a special action plan to recover the high street.
Among other things, agreed to relocate the weekly market in part or in the vicinity of Main Street and the municipal and local implementation of certain associations, supported routes tours, etc..
For this reason, the GMSocialista launched late last November a motion that we hope to reach in the next plenary discussion, the following points:
- The City of Caravaca acknowledges the traditional trade of the town as a strategic sector and socio-economic interest to promote and develop.
- To enhance and recover the true essence of the Pilgrim craft market so that in no case is relocating from Old Town.
- To resume all necessary initiatives to prevent the complete disappearance of traditional trade and adjacent Main Street, as approved in joint motion of all municipal political groups.
In particular, to relocate the weekly market in part or in the vicinity of Main Street.
- Creation of Commerce Municipal Council with the participation of social agents and political parties represented municipal professionals and traders, as well as a development plan that includes traditional trade period in which actions and strategies, tax aid and subsidies, urban design, planning, associations, etc. that result in the improvement and revitalization of small and medium business.
