They call requiring the company owner to permit, by law, public visits at least four days a month.
The Monasterio de San Jose de las Madres Discalced Carmelites, which houses an important part of the history of Caravaca, was declared a Cultural, monument to the category in December 2003 (by the Governing Council of the CARM) the imminent abandonment of the building by the Carmelite nuns.
With the declaration was included, along with building a catalog of component parts and belongings affected by the declaration, with a total of 42 possessions listed by their connection to the monument.
We believe that the aforementioned catalog contains a fraction of the pieces of interésque really existed, because the most important were drawn by the Carmelite nuns as they left the convent and never cataloged or no interest in doing so.
The most striking example is that of the two bells (which were in the first inventory and then disappeared the same).
Nor cataloged a good collection of sculptures that included a nativity Salzillo, a school desu Virgen del Rosario, a Virgin of Carmen Caro Fernandez, a San Jose tallade and another of the Virgin of Carmen, Santa Teresa gift and a good collection of children of Jesus.
In painting, among other things, a Santa Teresa retratooriginal plus a Gothic ivory triptych the same fate, so that we can not see caravaqueños these works in their original location, or know your destination or possible sale.
In 2004, the company is SL Parador del Convento, which proceeded to purchase the whole building (Church, Convent and garden), giving the administration the right of first refusal.
In this society involved, among others, the three companies commanded by Del Toro, and Belando Villegas, respectively, the same as soon after the UTE are Caravaca and get the award of the contract millionaire football field which will be sentenced after the City Caravaca.
CROEM President, Del Toro, acts as president of the society Parador del Convento SL.
Overlooking the Jubilee of 2010 expected to have opened a four-star hotel with 65 rooms, complete restoration of the Church of San Jose, which would be open for worship and other cultural activities, and a two basement parking floors over the garden and a lounge restaurant.
Previously the City proceeded with the controversial reclassification of more than half garden, to be built on (until then the garden was green), jeopardizing the preservation of ancient cypress trees.
Also, proceeded to the introduction of two new streets opening and end with the sole purpose of connecting the garden with Canalica Street and Street Lonja.
The above project has run failed, closed several years while the building and apparently without the owner take care of their maintenance, in breach of the obligation under the Law 4/2007 of the Cultural Heritage of the Region of Murcia, in Article 8, so it is occurring deterioration hopefully not become irreparable.
We have news that the Church is in bad shape and also cataloged pieces have disappeared as the doors of the altarpiece of Miguel Shoes, doors were covered in gold leaf with rocallasintegradas in the altarpiece, baroque.
On the other hand, there is more to take a look to see the poor condition of some piece of facade and roofs, which are full of weeds sure what causes moisture inside.
Also, the building owner has not provided the public visit at least four days a month, also as provided in Article 8 above cited, since the building has been closed for several years.
Therefore, in addition to expect the full involvement of City Council, we have requested in writing to the Ministry of Culture, under the provisions of the Law on Cultural Heritage of the Region of Murcia:
- They inspect the building of the Convent and Church, to detail their conservation status and require the owner to take over the obligations, with imposition of penalties and injunctive relief as appropriate.
- Certifying that the said catalog pieces are in place, their conservation status and which are missing, with the adoption if the appropriate action for restitution.
- To urge the owner to allow public visits at least four days a month, in days and hours indicated previously.
- To transfer to the City of the measures to be taken.
We will address a joint motion to all groups in support of what we requested and directed to the Ministry of Culture.
