The town of Caravaca de la Cruz will host from 24 to 28 June, the Meeting of the Spanish Society of Mineralogy, meeting is organized by the Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Geology and the University of Murcia.
During the Meeting, which will serve as a tribute to Rafael Arana, Professor of Crystallography and Mineralogy, University of Murcia, through fifty jobs that have worked two hundred scientists, will address the utility of mineralogy, petrology and geochemistry, and the need to preserve geological heritage.
Furthermore, encompassed in the summer courses of the International University of the Sea will be held in classrooms Castle Township Cross an international seminar on conservation and cultural and heritage tourism mineralogical and petrological.
In it, the speakers will discuss, among other issues, geological attractions included in the world heritage-as the Teide, Almaden mines or Naica crystals-giant, the exploitation of mining tourism or protection of meteorites.
The seminar program includes excursions to the volcanoes of Calasparra, Moratalla, Cancarix and Jumilla, to the ornamental rock deposits Cehegín to geological attractions and mines Caravaca de La Union.
Among the scientific outreach, both in the House of Culture of Caravaca, an exhibition of Geological and Mining Institute of Spain, including a replica of Molina de Segura meteorite, the largest in the country, and the screening of the documentary "The mystery of the giant crystals of Naica".
Both summer school lectures as scientific meeting will be open access.
The presentation ceremony was held today at the headquarters of the Rector of the University of Murcia, with the presence of Professor Francisco Guillen Mondejar, the rector of Coordination and Communication, María Ángeles Esteban, and the Councillor for Culture of the City of Caravaca, Maria Pérez Cross.
