The Carmelite Order delivery Caravaca the title of "City Teresiana"
The Council of Tourism and Celebrations of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz, Maria Cruz Perez and Jose Francisco Garcia, respectively, participated today in a meeting to promote a tourist route to mark the V Centenary of the Birth of St. Teresa.
During the event, held this morning in Avila, the 17 Spanish cities where St. Teresa founded convents, which include Caravaca, have received the title of "City Teresiana" by the Carmelite Order.
"The project aims to make the 17 cities involved a common interest in promoting the historical, cultural and religious of the Carmelite saints, especially of St. Teresa, but also of San Juan de la Cruz", as explained the councilor responsible for the areas of Tourism and Culture in the Consistory caravaqueño, Maria Cruz Perez, who has advanced that it has designed a route of pilgrimage and a tourist brochure with route information.
Also, the commemoration of the V Centenary of the Birth of St. Teresa of Jesus, the celebration will include cultural events.
For his part, the mayor José Francisco García pointed out that "with the commemoration next year 2015 the V Centenary of the Birth of Teresa of Jesus is to spread awareness of the cities where the Holy founded convents, foster ties between them and establish a route of pilgrimage to spend at the places where the Carmelite produced his work and left his spiritual legacy. "
The 17 cities that form part of the "Twin Cities of St. Teresa" are: Avila, Soria, Burgos, Palencia, Valladolid, Medina del Campo, Segovia, Salamanca, Alba de Tormes, Pastrana, Toledo, Malagon, Villanueva de la Jara, Beas, Caravaca de la Cruz, Seville and Granada.
