The presence of Caravaca in maps focused exhibition in the Society of Jesus (14/01/2014)

The presence of the town of Caravaca de la Cruz on the maps between the fifteenth and twentieth centuries is the subject of a new exhibition at the Society of Jesus.

The exhibition, organized by the departments of Tourism and Culture of the City of Caravaca with the collaboration of Caravaca Jubilee permacerá will be open until February 6, Monday to Saturday, 17.30 to 20.30.

The exhibition entitled "Caravaca in geographic, thematic and topographic maps" consists almost entirely of paper reproductions of originals preserved in various archives, among which the funds of the National Geographic Institute of Spain, the Geographic Institute of Catalonia, or the Library Regional de Murcia.

A total of 49 different prints and explanatory texts comprising the presence of Caravaca and places of the municipality in the historical cartography, plus the path followed by the name Caravaca is.

Between the sheets exposed is the first play that has survived to this day the Castle of Caravaca.

The show begins with the Tabula Moderna Hispaniae of Bernardinus venetus of Vitalibus, published in Rome in 1508, where Caravaca appears under the form Caravaccha and concludes with a detailed data sheet 910 National Topographic Map, the current name of Caravaca de la Cruz, officially emerged after the agreement by the Council of Ministers on March 9, 1962.

The exhibition closes with an appendix with maps of Roman toponymy where Carca Asso places and some scholars and researchers have sought to identify Caravaca and The Incarnation, respectively appear.

Two original books published in 1684 and 1722 about the history and miracles of Caravaca de la Cruz, preserved at the International Centre for the Study of Vera Cruz de Caravaca, Caravaca Cross also from the collection of Antonio Celdran also exposed Ferrer- Egea, as valuable evidence of diffusion reached by the cult of the Sacred Relic in Spain and Europe and the influence which for centuries was as high in the name of the name of Caravaca.

For consultation by the public who visit the exhibition also shows the well known to lovers of modern reproductions of historical maps atlas: a summary of the Blaeu Atlas Maior of Iohan published in Amsterdam in 1665, or the no less famous Geographic Atlas of Spain Tomás López, finally published in 1804 after a laborious and uneven data collection.

During the days that remain open exposure, students of schools and colleges in Caravaca participate in guided tours.
