The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Adela Martinez-Cache, visited today, with the mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, Domingo Aranda, the Centre for Demonstration and Technology Transfer 'Las Nogueras de Arriba', in the hamlet of Los Prados, where are introducing new plantations and alternative crops to traditional the Northwest Region.
This property has an area of ​​16 hectares for work demonstration and technology transfer dedicated to experimental plots with fruit, which are developing tests cultivation techniques and new species and varieties "that improve the quality of productions, expand timetables and have profitability, "said Martinez-Cache.
"This space was a demand in the sector as it makes possible to study new and more competitive for local agriculture varieties," said the Mayor.
The climate of the Northwest region makes possible the introduction of new varieties.
This area allows experimenting with crops such as cherry, walnut, persimmon, pistachio or black truffle, and earlier in almond and apricot production.
The objective is to obtain new products that export demand in a region such as the Northwest, which covers an area of ​​16,667 hectares of fruit.
Martinez-Cache highlighted the possibilities of this area to introduce new crops "do more competitive farming and its benefits in the fresh market."
