"The Malquerida" Jacinto Benavente, tonight opens the 35th edition of the Week of Theatre Caravaca de la Cruz, organized by the Department of Culture of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz.
The play, written by one of the most important Spanish playwrights of the twentieth century, is presented at 22.30 pm in the theater Thuillier.
Tomorrow, Tuesday will be the turn of the comedy "Unsatisfied" starring the well-known actresses Miriam Diaz Aroca and Belinda Washington.
The company Murcia "Alquibla Theatre" has made an innovative adaptation of "The Malquerida" a family tragedy whose theme is built around a love triangle, incestuous nature (mother-stepfather-daughter).
His characters, drawn from the rural and telluric world, located in extreme situations on an emotional level, show the story of passion and its consequences.
The tragic dimension of his female characters allows the woman is the protagonist of the action of this work, but the world we are to be "a man's world."
Oedipal quest for truth of Sophocles, the incestuous love of Phaedra of Euripides or brotherly love Aeschylus Electra and legacy issues of the dramas of the Spanish Golden Age, as shown in his honor tragic genesis, justice, jealousy, infidelity or "what people say".
"The Malquerida" is the story of a confrontation between a forbidden passion and social and moral conventions that prevent the fulfillment of desire.
The show is co-produced by Alquibla Theatre, the International Theatre Festival of San Javier and Murcia Circus Theatre.
It has also received support from the Ministry of Culture of Spain.
Jacinto Benavente (1866-1954) is one of the most important Spanish playwrights of the early twentieth century, along with Valle-Inclan, Arniches and García Lorca.
Benavente has been one of the most influential playwrights in contemporary theater, as would Buero Vallejo was "master of those who have followed and that has been denied."
The company Alquibla Theatre and its director, Antonio Saura, with over 30 years of experience on stage, permeate this mounting a balance between tradition and innovation, with great pace and dynamism scenic.
