Participants were selected from the winners of the municipal anti-smoking program "Healthy Travel"
Ten young caravaqueños have participated in the European Youth Meeting held in the French city of Genevieve des Bois, along with more than a hundred students from seven other European cities.
The Youth Council of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz, promoter of this activity, stresses that these meetings favor the multicultural learning, youth mobility and exchange of experiences in youth policies between countries.
The young participants in the European-Youth-Meeting, which takes place every July, were selected by drawing lots among the winners of the anti-smoking program "Healthy Travel", included in the Municipal Plan to Combat Drug Addiction.
Teens who are part of this program attend lectures, workshops and group dynamics and also acquired the commitment not to smoke during the eight months duration, undergoing periodic testing control.
During the week-long meeting, the youth have participated in workshops and activities to promote knowledge of French culture.
Furthermore, for closing, the International Gala meeting in which aspects of the culture and traditions of each of the participating cities showed was held.
In addition to Caravaca de la Cruz, in this European meeting they participated students Penafiel (Portugal), Gemona of Fruili (Italy), Klimkovice (Czech Republic), Laarkirchen (Austria), Ilava (Slovakia), Mikolow (Poland), Meiningen (Germany ) Obertshaussen (Germany) and St. Genevieve (France).
The European-Youth-Meeting is funded by the country hosting the meeting, which provides accommodation and meals for the boys and girls.
The participants themselves bear the costs of the flight and the Youth Council of the City of Caravaca cooperates with the bus for airport transfers.
In 2008, the German city of Obertshaussen, with which is twinned Caravaca, provided an opportunity for the Youth Council of joining the network of cities participating in these meetings, and since then has not missed any year this important event for our youth.
