The project, implemented in the old schools of the district, has been funded with 160,000 euros by the European Leader rural development funds through the Comprehensive Plan
The National Sheep Breeders Association Segureño (ANCOS) opened today at the headquarters Archivel first Pastoral School of Murcia.
This project received funding of 160,000 euros from European agricultural EAFRD rural development funding, through the Comprehensive Plan, and has been implemented in the building of the old schools of the district, assigned by the City of Caravaca for this purpose.
The new building has an administrative part, which will also host the association of sheep breeders segureño of the region, and a training room.
Among the objectives of the Shepherd School initiative that already works successfully in other places like Andalusia, the Canary Islands and the Basque Country, it is to professionalize the office of pastor for greater sustainability of the sector and create jobs.
The mayor, José Moreno;
Director General of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Autonomous Community, Teodora Carmen Morales;
and ANCOS President, Jose Antonio tips along the Councillor for Agriculture, Enrique Fuentes, and many farmers have participated in the presentation of this pioneering project.
Subsequently, there has been a Gastronomic Day for the dissemination and promotion of the Lamb Segureño.
This school in the words of the director general "is an example of how EU funds arrive at the base of the population, benefiting the development of ranching, so necessary for the maintenance and development of the rural population".
The mayor stressed the importance of this initiative so important in the municipality as the primary sector and called for coordination and cooperation between different municipalities belonging to the National Sheep Breeders Association Segureño to get the most out of the system.
The opening of this space, become a center of continuing education seminars will reinforce awareness and actions held to date in the House of Culture of Caravaca as part of this training project.
The lamb segureño
Sheep farming is of great importance to socio-economic level in the Northwest region, as it has a large census sheep bred a traditional production system rooted in rural areas, integrated in nature and therefore respectful with the environment.
Segureño lamb is included since 2011 under the Designation of Origin (PDO).
It breeds in certain areas of Murcia, such as the municipality of Caravaca de la Cruz, and other parts of the provinces of Albacete, Almeria, Granada and Jaen.
It is therefore a race characterized by high hardiness and high production levels, which has helped maintain significant levels of purity in the difficult environment in which develops, which have not been introduced have adapted other Spanish or foreign breeds.
