The Socialist Party of the Region of Murcia has highlighted the "democratic, transparent and participatory" way in which the neighbors have chosen the eight village headman of the municipality of Cehegín.
The secretary general of the party in the region, Rafael González Tovar, expressed his satisfaction with the democratic election that answers "to a new way of understanding local politics".
Tovar Gonzalez stressed that this measure "we fulfill our word and our electoral commitment to promote citizenship participation", stating that "we have another way of doing things and is beginning to be felt in the various municipalities where mayors governing Socialists ".
This proposed democratic election of village headman was taken to Full Council of Caravaca de la Cruz last September by the Municipal Group of Izquierda Unida and approved by the affirmative vote of the three political opposition groups (PP, IU and Citizens) while paradoxically was voted down by the PSOE.
"Weak memory PSOE and his usual cynicism make him overlook the leader of the Socialist Murcia, Mr. González Tovar, the same measure by which sticks out his chest in Cehegín was rejected by the government team of his party in Caravaca de la Cruz, only seven kilometers away, in a recent plenary session, "said Popular Party spokesman Jose Francisco Garcia.
Garcia added that the Popular Party pledged publicly during the last campaign of municipal elections to take place this democratic election of village headman if he won.
"The proposal is approved by a majority of the Municipal Corporation of Caravaca with the sum of the votes of the three opposition groups and we hope that the government team keep its word transparency and put in place," he claimed the popular spokesman.
