The Councillor for Environment, Antonia M ª Álvarez, today launched the campaign "Donate your mobile" organized by the Spanish Red Cross and Entreculturas with the collaboration of various institutions and companies.
Caravaca City Council has joined the campaign to pursue the twin goals of environmental stewardship and collaboration with groups of disadvantaged countries.
The revenue generated by reusing and recycling donated phones will go to humanitarian and social projects.
The campaign involves the collection of disused mobile phones to promote their subsequent reuse and recycling.
To do this, people will place the terminals in a bag that the Department of Environment has been distributed by the various public buildings such as Library, Youth Center, City Hall, schools and colleges, and electronics stores in the locality.
In turn, these bags will be dropped into the mailbox post offices.
The mayor Antonia Maria Alvarez said "to make this campaign successful operation requires the collaboration of caravaqueños as well as companies and businesses of all types who want to join this initiative."
Red Cross will use the funds raised for projects and activities related to the environment.
For its part, Entreculturas use the money to mitigate the effects of HIV and care of children orphaned by the disease in Burundi, Kenya, Burkina Faso and Democratic Republic of Congo.
