The mayor, Domingo Aranda, the elder brother of the Confraternity of the Vera Cruz, Jose Luis Castillo, and the general secretary of the Committee on Celebration, Antonio Caballero, have made it official this morning the appointment of Inmaculada García as herald of the coming festivities .
Inmaculada García, current Minister of Finance and Economy, will be the first woman to hold this position.
During the ceremony held at the International Centre for the Study of Vera Cruz, Inmaculada García has stated that it is a double satisfaction to proclaim the start of the holiday Caravaca and at the same time, being the first woman in history to play this charge.
The herald of the holidays of 2009 was also remembered the names of others who have preceded him on this appointment as Fernando Vizcaíno Casas, Matías Prats and Ramón Luis Valcárcel.
"Caravaca de la Cruz has been one of my greatest discoveries of the Region of Murcia, visit the city whenever I can and am willing to address the caravaqueños from the balcony of City Hall on April 26," he assured.
Inmaculada García was elected as town crier for the Celebration Committee by acclamation upon the proposal made by the elder brother.
The mayor and the brother explained that she is the right person to proclaim the start of the fiesta de la Vera Cruz by anxiety and excitement that has been shown for projects related to Caravaca repeatedly.
