Local Athletes Encarna Sánchez and Emilio Pérez were received yesterday by a large group of caravaqueños and neighbors of the Northwest District after his participation in the Sahara Marathon.
Emilio Perez managed a creditable third place in what is considered one of the toughest tests in its class.
The event was held last night at the Casa de la Cruz was attended by the mayor, Domingo Aranda councilors Auguy Gonzalo and Carmen López-Ruiz, and the headman of the Almudema, José Antonio Corbalan, who took delivery of some recognition for this feat sport and solidarity.
"Emilio and Encarna have lived a reality that deserves to be known and which forms a working example for others," said the mayor during the course of action.
Sahara Marathon in its last edition was attended by 500 runners from different countries, including a broad representation of all Spanish regions.
In its first participation in the race, Emilio Perez was in third place after the Algerian Abd Zaiane Habal Razag and Zuber.
The test is organized for solidarity to call attention to the dramatic situation faced by more than 200,000 Sahrawi refugees in the Algerian desert.
