The City of Caravaca, through a government meeting held in the morning, had joined the case brought by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Autonomous Region for the award of the Gold Medal of the Murcia Region José Carrilero for Gil.
Caravaqueño sculptor José Carrilero is one of the most outstanding artists from Murcia in the field of twentieth century sculpture.
He studied at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, retired by the Provincial Government of Murcia and the Spanish Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, pensioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Back in Spain he was Professor of Drawing at the School of Arts and Crafts in Madrid, and taught sculpture at the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid.
With a thematic work divided between America and Europe, which stand volumes, received many awards do just honor the career of the sculptor born in Caravaca.
In 2003 he was envestida Member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de Santa Maria de la Arrixaca.
He belonged to the New Figuration group consisting of artists such as Venancio Blanco, Donaire, Mountain, Mustieles and Valverde.
José Carrilero donated his extensive artistic production to his hometown, Caravaca de la Cruz, through an agreement with the City.
The works will be exhibited in a museum in the former headquarters of the Guardia Civil, the house that was born in 1928.
