With the aim of reducing pollution on the beaches, the Department of Environment of the City Council Caravaca Cruz gives green ashtrays while supplies last.
Cigarette butts cause two problems: one, it is difficult to remove from the sand.
Cleaning machines can not remove them.
Fall back into the sand and build up.
On the other hand, being non-biodegradable material, a cigarette butt takes years to disappear.
It can be consumed by microorganisms and that causes fish to have problems if ingested.
It takes between five and twenty years to disappear naturally.
Therefore it is important not to throw in the beach, but not to the sewer, because in the end also end up in the sea.
Ashtrays will be shared between 8 am and 3 pm Monday through Friday in the office environment, Avda of Andenes.
