The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, accompanied by the mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, Domingo Aranda, today made the cornerstone of the comprehensive refurbishment of the garden at the Plaza of the slide of the town, whose budget funded by the regional government by 75 percent and the City by 25 percent, amounting to 750,000 euros.
The plaza is designed as a walk of 187 meters long and is one of the most important historical axes to be located in Caravaca he Conception parish church of XVI century, the Temple or tub of the Holy Cross or the Convent of Lady of Mount Caramel, founded in 1586.
As indicated by the Minister, the proposal will lead to the renewal of one of the main venues of the town "from a more livable new space, tailored to the needs of citizens, which will enhance the presence of public buildings and monuments compared to road traffic in the area. "
The renovation includes new flooring covering over 4,000 square feet of existing pedestrian zone and the Church of the Conception, which will give a sense of continuity to the environment, creating a uniform ride.
It is also expected to lower the height of the square 30 centimeters over its current level, to raise the Temple and enhance the visibility of this monument.
On the other hand, on the ride next to the Church, has provided a raised area in front of the existing monument so it can be seen from every point of the ride.
During the ceremony, the Minister stated that "there are numerous actions that have taken place in recent years, thanks to increased investment in rehabilitation of the regional executive and architecture, each year increasing numbers of municipalities that can benefit from infrastructures renovated to serve the citizens. This is an action included within the program of refurbishing public spaces of the regional executive, which in 2009 earmarked more than six million euros to architectural improvements.
