The opening Mass was held at 10.30 am in the courtyard of the Basilica-Santuario de la Vera Cruz.
At 8:30 hours the authorities focused on the plaza of the Arch to address Mother's Convent where Clark collected a tray with flowers and other purifications to offer to the Blessed and Vera Cruz during the Eucharist.

The opening ceremony of the Holy Year 2010 was attended by the President of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, the President of the Regional Assembly of Murcia, Francisco Celdran, the government delegate in the Region of Murcia Rafael González Tovar, Big Brother of the Brotherhood of the Holy and Vera Cruz de Caravaca D.
José Luis Castillo Guerrero and the board representative of the Brotherhood, Domingo Aranda Muñoz Caravaca with Mayor of Municipal Corporation as well as numerous members of the regional government and military and ecclesiastical authorities.
Have also participated in the ceremony were members of the Diocesan Seminary of Cartagena, Cartagena Mater Redentoris Seminar, the seminar Caravaca Castellón and seminarians.
To close the acts of the Solemn Opening of the Jubilee Year 2010, at 20.00 hours, the parish of El Salvador will host a concert by the Kodaly Choir accompanied by the Cartagena Chamber Orchestra directed by José Bermejo.
The Kodály Coral path is marked by numerous awards in most state choral competitions, receiving first prize in the contest Ejea de los Caballeros, Cocentaina, Aviles, San Vicente de la Barquera, Cieza and Molina de Segura , among others.

THE BLESSED AND VERA CRUZ DE CARAVACA
The Cross of Caravaca is a "True Cross", a piece of wood belonging to the tree on which Jesus was crucified.
It is preserved in a reliquary in the form of double-cross and a horizontal arm vertical.
The importance of the symbol is in the teak-case as some people mistakenly believe, but the relic contained within.
It is a relic of the patriarchal origin supported by Holy Land and their connection to Vera Cruz, discovered in the fourth century by Emperor Constantine (335-347) or his mother a saint.

Historical Tradition Appearance
According to local historical tradition, a wonderful and unique event occurred on May 3, 1231.

In the wonderful appearance, Sayid and his court converted to Christianity.
THE ROYAL AND ILLUSTRIOUS BROTHERHOOD OF THE HOLY AND VERA CRUZ DE CARAVACA
The origins of the Royal and Illustrious Brotherhood of the Holy and Vera Cruz de Caravaca back to the thirteenth century when, according to historical tradition, the Holy Relic miraculously appeared at the Alcazar Shrine where custody today.
Until the sixteenth century there is documentation to prove its existence.
Thus, from this time are continuous references to the Stewardship and Brotherhood of the True Cross of Caravaca, leaving a clear presence of the Confraternity of the Vera Cruz, in an organized manner, and in the sixteenth century.
Ecclesiastical recognition of both the cult of Vera Cruz, and the importance of Brotherhood has already witnessed both in the seventeenth century and in the XVIII.
During the last quarter of the twentieth century a new stage and the way forward for the international projection of the Vera Cruz de Caravaca in its modern history leading to the award of the Jubilee Year I of the Vera Cruz de Caravaca in 1981 .
Only fifteen years later, in 1996, after the new grant, was held on II Jubilee Year of the Vera Cruz promoting and recovering the tradition of pilgrimage to the shrine to venerate the Holy Cross of Caravaca.
From this time he worked with the desire to give institutional form to the Jubilee celebrations, this effort was offset by the grant by His Holiness John Paul II (Port Apostolic Penitentiary.
No. 2/98/1) of the celebration of this religious event in seven years, in a fixed and forever the Sanctuary and around the Sacred Relic of the True Cross, the first held in 2003 and with the visit of more than a million pilgrims bowed before the Vera Cruz to win the grace given by the Holy Year "in perpetuum" granted by the Holy See.
GROUNDS FOR CELEBRATION
The conclusion is based on several reasons:
In secular history and presence of the Cross in our town, about 780 years.

- In the celebrations of the Solemn Opening and Closing of the Jubilee Year.
- In the days in which the diocesan bishop presiding a solemn rite.
CONDITIONS COMMON TO RECEIVE THE GRACE OF JUBILEE.
- Visit and participate in any celebration at the Shrine of the Blessed.
and Vera Cruz de Caravaca, with devotion and intention to win the Jubilee and pray for the intentions of the Pope (not just a tourist)
- If unable to attend a celebration, it is sufficient to visit the shrine and reciting a prayer for world peace and intentions of the Roman Pontiff.
- Sacramental Confession and Holy Communion.
Not required to receive these sacraments indispensable in the sanctuary or on the day of the visit.
Can be received a few days before or after the pilgrimage to the Temple of the Cross, in another church or at the parish of faithful pilgrims.
