Caravaca de la Cruz will join the initiative of the Metro Check that promotes international World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to combat climate change.
The plenary session on Thursday night approved, with the support of the three political groups, off the lighting of the Castle tomorrow, Saturday, from 20.30 to 21.30.
The Councillor for Environment, Antonia M ª Álvarez, explained that the City Council has joined this campaign called Time Metro for everyone to reflect on our habits of energy consumption and how much we can accomplish with actions as simple as turning off the light .
"We chose the Castle, as the most emblematic and representative of the city also has special symbolism in this Jubilee Year 2010, and also turn off the lighting of the monument to the Pilgrim Monument and part of the Wine Horses" .
Earth Hour is the campaign against climate change largest in history.
In 2009 there were over four thousand cities in 88 countries, including some 200 Spanish cities.
It is expected that hundreds of millions of people around the world turn off their lights for one hour, and calling for action on climate change.
